Kids Make TV Camp
At Kids Make TV Camp, kids call the shots as they plan, write, direct, shoot and edit short films, TV shows, video blogs and animations of their own design. Campers get real life, hands-on experience using professional high definition cameras, industry standard computer editing software, and television broadcast equipment.
From day one campers are immersed in the world of a working television station. Every day is filled with workshops for camera, lighting, sound, editing, special effects, producing and directing, all the while campers are writing and directing their own projects. At the end of the week we roll out the red carpet for a star-studded premiere for family and friends!

Afterschool Media Literacy
The iYouth Media Institute runs integrated media literacy and video production classes. When kids make the kind of media they want to see they are producing more than entertainment, they are gaining technical skills, learning to analyze media messages and learning to work together to see through a project. Internet, television and movies are defining how today’s youth see the world, we want to empower them to move from media viewers to media makers.
The iYouth Media Institute currently runs an afterschool program at Garcia Middle School, and has worked with Reagan High and Dobie Middle Schools.
The iYouth Media Institute also launched a collaboration with the Save Our History project and APD’s East Side Story to create a youth historian video project that incorporates all aspects of media literacy and production with a focus on community documentary.
Internships
Any iYouth student is encouraged to further their skills by coming on board as an intern at channelAustin. Summer, weekends, or after school, there is always something going on at channelAustin. Get a head start on your future by working side by side with the professionals.

Reel Life
channelAustin’s pilot program, ReelLife, is an indie filmmaking competition where youth ages 16 to 18 are thrown into a three-day “bootcamp” to learn the basics of film production. From there they are divided into four crews with only one week to develop a concept and script, and an additional week to produce and edit a 5-minute film.
The shorts are premiered on Live television before a panel of judges and studio audience. With viewers texting and calling-in to vote, two crews will be eliminated with the remaining two crews having one additional week to produce a second short, with a little help from their friends (the loosing crews will have to help out, as well as shoot a behind-the scenes documentary).
The crew that makes it to the last week will get an awesome prize, like a day on the set of a feature film.
